Progress to Date
On 3 July 2025, the Eastern Region hosted its first ADASS & ADCS Transitions Event, bringing together senior leaders and practitioners from children’s and adult services. This event marked a significant step toward fostering a region-wide commitment to improving transitions for young people entering adulthood and laid the foundation for cross-service collaboration.
Both Directors of Childrens and Adults Services agreed to the following recommendations that were created as a result of the event:
- Conference on Lived Experience, looking at Transitional Safeguarding
- Regional Protocol for preparation for adulthood and transitions
- Regional learning and development on transitional safeguarding
As part of the regional learning and development programme, December featured training on the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS). This training was delivered to colleagues across Adults’ and Children’s Services, Carer Services, the Private, Voluntary and Independent (PVI) sector, and parent/carers.
Additionally, a regional diagnostic review is currently underway to assess local transition arrangements and inform the development of a comprehensive regional protocol.
Our commitment to improving transitions continues into 2026, with several key initiatives:
- 11th February – Transitions Conference
- Attendance at the ADASS and ADCS Branch Meetings to present MCA & DoLS training findings and agree support for further work.
- Further joint training around MCA & DoLS
- Development of a joint regional Transitions protocol
