Eastern Region Anti Racist Practice: Allyship Webinar
11TH JUNE 2026, 12:30-1:30
FOR THE EASTERN REGION BY THE EASTERN REGION
Presented by Ray Addai an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and Anti‑Racist Practice Lead within Children’s Social Care at Durham County Council. With a strong practice‑led and systems‑focused approach, Ray designs and delivers extensive training that supports professionals to embed anti‑racist, inclusive and equitable practice across services for children and families.
Ray’s session on Allyship focuses on equipping practitioners with the awareness, confidence, and practical tools needed to actively support equity, diversity, and anti-racist practice among those professionals who work with children and families. The session explores how power, privilege, and systemic inequalities shape the experiences of children, families, and colleagues, and challenges participants to reflect critically on their own assumptions and behaviours.
Through real-world scenarios and discussion, the training emphasises the importance of moving beyond passive support to intentional, informed action—amplifying marginalised voices, addressing discrimination when it occurs, and embedding inclusive practice into everyday decision-making. The training creates a space that is both challenging and supportive, enabling professionals to develop as accountable and effective allies in their work.

Nervous System Informed Anti Racist Practice: The Impact of Trauma, Internalised Racism and Vicarious Trauma on Social Work
9TH JULY 2026, 12:15-1:15
FOR THE EASTERN REGION BY THE EASTERN REGION
Presented by Natalie Robertson, an experienced social worker and award-winning practice educator with almost ten years in children’s services. She is the founder of Work-Wise where she delivers training, coaching, and consultancy focused on nervous system-informed leadership, resilience, burnout prevention and workforce development across social care.
This session explores how racialised trauma shows up in social work practice, particularly when supporting families within complex systems. It will examine the impact of trauma, internalised racism, and vicarious trauma on both families and practitioners, and how these experiences can shape perception, decision-making, and relationships.
Grounded in nervous system awareness, the session will support practitioners to better understand their own responses alongside the lived experiences of the families they work with. It will also explore how leaders and managers can take a nervous system-informed approach to supervision and service delivery, creating psychologically safer environments that acknowledge racial trauma, reduce harm, and support more empowering, equitable practice.
This is a reflective and practical session designed to strengthen awareness, build confidence, and support meaningful change at both an individual and systemic level.
