It aims to work collaboratively, to gather data & develop systems within each Local Authority to improve outcomes across the Region.

About this Project

This network consists of all 11 Local Authorities, with the aim of collaborating as a region to gain consistency in data collections, improve understanding of requirements, and help shape the direction of future data collections.

News:

  • The Alternative Provision Census deadline was 27/02/2026.  The DfE are in the process of checking and authorising returns submitted.
  • SEN2 deadline for submitting data: Thursday 12 March 2026.  Several eastern region local authorities have submitted data while others are continuing their SEN2 work.

DfE statistical publications and guidance relating to SEND and AP data

Alternative provision census guidance.  How local authorities should submit data for the alternative provision (AP) census.

Education, health and care plans in England 2025.  This publication provides information on both the numbers of children and young people with an education, health and care (EHC) plan as at January each year, and the number of children and young people progressing through each stage of the EHC plan process during the preceding calendar year. This publication is based on data collected in the SEN2 data collection and covers all children and young people with an EHC plan of ages 0 to 25, including those where the child or young person attends early years settings, further education or is educated other than in school.

Special educational needs in England 2024/25.  This release contains figures on pupils with special educational needs (SEN) including their type of SEN provision, type of need, age, national curriculum year group, sex, ethnicity, English as a first language and free school meal eligibility.  This publication combines information from the January (spring) school census (state-funded schools), school level annual school census (independent schools) and general hospital school census.
